Heavy snowfalls in Bansko
Saturday, 21 March 2009There is exceptionally heavy snowfall in the Predel region, Regional Road Service – Blagoevgrad told.
The snow cover there is over 60 cm, it surpasses 70 cm in Bansko. The wind is very strong and snow-drifts are formed on roads right after they are cleaned. More than 40 snow-ploughs are already cleaning the roads in Blagoevgrad region. The traffic of trucks through the passages leading to Predel and Papazchair is halted, for all other vehicles tire chains are a must.
The snowfall is heavy over border checkpoints Stanke Lisichkovo and Ilinden. E-79 motorway is cleaned constantly.
Snowfalls in the south-western part of the country are to continue through the night. The teams of National Road Infrastructure Agency /NRIA/ reminds drivers not to set off without the equipment such weather conditions require and to drive at reasonable speed.
